Don't know what to do

Ok, I don't know what to do. For almost four years, I've worked on a particular fantasy series and have developed a deep attachment to it. However, I've run into a problem. So far I've written two books but desperately need some kind of conclusion, which may need another two books to tell. For about a year, I've been trying to find some form of a conclusion, but I can't get a stupid cohesive, interesting plot.

On the one hand, I'm tempted to give it up permanently because I've never been stuck this long before and because there's no real underlying theme/ story to the two books. But, I'm very attached to the story and to its characters, and I don't want to give them up.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to handle this story of mine because I'm quite frustrated with it at the moment. Thanks!

I sent you one of the drafts for the first book a while back. But, basically, the first book deals with a group of nobles and royalty gathering together to try to work together, but inner tensions are tearing them apart because of their different nationalities; and the main character uncovers two different conspiracies that could radically change everything. The second book deals with the main character going to a foreign land to rescue the woman he loves from the clutches of her evil boyfriend, but his past and her past are never far behind.

If you need to just take a break from them, do it. But don't give up!! That would be terrible! Esp. after working so long on them.

ahh thats right. its called "under the dark trees" or somethign liek that? or perhaps that's soemoen esles story.

i would recomened takeign a break from it. it sounds liek youve invested alot of time and effort into this story but takeing a break can only help it. it gives you time to plan and seperation only makes the heart grow fonder =P if your really THAT into this story youll throw yourself into it twice as hard when you gte back into it. just me 2cents

NaNo rule number one: When in doubt, destroy something important and/or emotional evocative.

Sort of hard to do that when I don't have any sort of plot.

Well, each book has a plot, but neither of them really interconnect, and I can't find a way to bring them together in some kind of conclusion.
