I think I've finally discovered a character I can get five things for fairly easily! :D (I don't know if it's good or bad that he's pretty new instead of one of the characters I've been writing for years...)

Ark (a.k.a. Ariel, but hardly anyone knows him by that name)

1. Walls. Big, huge walls all around him. They're there to keep his hurt and fear in, and to keep other people out and at arm's distance. He's formal and polite to pretty much everyone. If he realizes he's starting to get too comfortable and familiar around someone, he pulls back inside himself.

2. He avoids physical contact. This is heavily related to point 1. Any physical affection means someone's getting too close. He is actually less bothered by violent physical contact (not that he likes that, either). He has his personal bubble around him, and he doesn't want invaders.

3. Despite the above, he actually doesn't dislike people and is willing to help those in need. He especially cares for the people in the village he's more or less in charge of; he's trying to fill a hole in his life by taking them under his care. He just wants there to be a distance between them and him so they don't find who and what he really is.

4. He wears a large blindfold that covers most of the top of his face. So any facial expressions that involve the eyes and the area around them cannot be seen. This includes eyebrows.

5. He's immortal. And he hates it. He should never act out of a concern for his own life.

Adam Wilson – Main character from the novella I partially wrote for my creative writing class.

1. Has no recollection on his past, therefore making him unable to remember the relationships that he had built previously.

2. Will do just about anything for his former fiancé, which he doesn’t know is his former fiancé due to his memory loss.

3. Mess of Me, Monster. Seriously, these songs fit him to a tee.

4. Has a serious anger issue that manifests itself in the form of slaughtering those he feels are against him.

5. Hears a voice in his head. Said voice can end up dictating his actions at random points, making him precarious to have around. Because of his inability to stop himself he often hurts those he loves the most.

Sul, it was quite unwise of you to remind me (the person who stalks that blog) that Adam still exists. I had momentarily forgotten. Write more!

Ok... here's another char I've been recently developing over the past few years but have yet to stick him in a story... well, one that gets beyond a few pages :P

Matthew "Wolf" Pennington

1. He's over six feet tall and strongly built, but he's something of a gentle giant. He only fights back in self-defense or if someone else is being threatened; he's not a violent, belligerent guy.

2. He loves his music. He goes a bit manic when he's playing or composing something on his fiddle. It's one of the things that helps keep him sane.

3. He is a vampire and has been "clean" since the 1790's. He's got excellent self-control.

4. He's a nice guy, friendly and honorable especially towards females. However, he seems to have bad luck in every single relationship with women in his lifetime, including betrayal, getting his heart broken, or even death.

5. Was born to a Scottish-Irish immigrant and a Native American woman in the 1750's. Grew up practically half-wild and it still shows, which is probably why the rest of his coven calls him a barbarian.

I can't believe I never noticed this before -- it looks fun. Here's the MC of my most recent NaNo (that I'm still working on):

Silas

1. He's the first person to be grown fully in a lab -- at least that's what the head scientist, Lucian Black, told him. He doesn't know for sure if it's true. He was meant to be an assassin/super-soldier with no mind of his own who would follow Black's orders unquestioningly. BUT...

2. He rebelled. And now it is his life's mission to find Black (who has since their first meeting achieved a high position of power) and kill him. There is only one thing he considers more important than this:

3. Protecting Lily, the eight-year-old orphan he rescued. What exactly he rescued her from, he doesn't know. But he's very protective of her, and she's the only reason he doesn't run off on a suicide mission to take out Black.

4. He's afraid of dying. And he hates himself for it. It's a little ironic, since he was made to be a killer.

5. He's essentially superhuman. His senses of sight, hearing, and smell are all more sensitive, and he's stronger and faster than any other human.

Also (and this doesn't really fit with the other five, nor does it have much bearing on the actual story, so it's not in the list) I believe he's the first MC I've written who's also my favorite character.

Going to try and do one of these every couple of days, I think.

Since I miss Rin tremendously, let's start easy: everyone, here are the five top things I keep in mind when I write Keldar Saverin, resident Dark Lord and Eater of Puppies.

1. I have a lot of experience writing supernaturally gifted former generals with mom-issues and messiah complexes.

2. His powers are entirely Rule of Cool (although coming up with explanations for them has produced imho some of our niftiest backstory crap).

3. He killed a lot of people. A lot of people. And has very little remorse about it. Does he need hugs? Probably. Will the narrative give him any? Not while I'm driving.

4. Hair trigger. Vorpal hair. Breathe wrong and he will kill you.

5. Really, really not attracted to men. At all. Especially not the winged ones. No matter how much I ship him with his childhood friend. Didn't happen. This goes double for Anar.

It may surprise those who know Rin that "not g&y" rates higher on my list than "totally word salad crazy" and "possessed by a god," but then... I do also play Feir, so maybe this shouldn't surprise anyone.

**EDIT** Since we've been having such a huge problem with spam, fyi, the blue links in my post are DELIBERATE and I have not suddenly turned into a bot. The first link goes to a wiki article, the second goes to TV Tropes, and the third goes to another wiki article. No wedding cakes or golf clubs here.

I doubt any bot would be able to mimick your knowledge of Rin. :P

Also, since I know Rin and who's writing it, I believe "not g@y" is in a perfectly respectable spot on that list. We all know Keldar is completely bonkers.

My knowledge of Rin is great and terrifying. But nothing says I can't be taken over by nanomachines or summat. :D
