I'm more bothered by badly-written dialect--really, honestly, written dialect in general bothers me unless it's subtle or exceptionally well-done.

But let's see, actual pet peeves...I might be in too good of a mood to do this right now. XD OH! Here is one (that will no doubt paint me as a hypocrite): I hate, hate, HAAAAATE Author's Darlings. The reason I say it makes me a hypocrite is because I'm not sure, from the writing perspective, how defined that line is between "loving your character" and "loving them way too much" and, well, I've been writing Feir and co. for a month. I do like to think he's not a Darling, but, my own writing aside--that crap drives me nuts on several levels. As a reader it's just annoying, but as an editor it is incredibly frustrating, because you can't even suggest anything about the character (even neutral things!) without the author taking it as a personal affront and getting either super-defensive or completely tuning you out. Speaking from experience.

...Otherwise, yeah, I think I'm in too good of a mood. XD

Feir <3 (Yes, I do have to do that whenever he's mentioned.)

One of my biggest pet peeves, though definitely one I've only see in unedited or group story type stuff if when people use "of" instead of "have". As in, "I would of[HAVE] gone to the movies with you if I was allowed." Bothers the crap out of my. I know it sounds like we say "of" but that's just because we slur it to "would've" when we're speaking, even if it's not a real contraction. Like, COME ON PEOPLE. DID YOU NOT LEARN THIS WHEN YOU WERE SEVEN YEARS OLD LIKE I DID?

Seriously though, everytime I see someone's written that some part of me dies.

My pet peeves:

-Bad grammar
-Gary Stus and Mary Sues
-People who repeat words too many times in a single paragraph (ok, yeah, I admit it, I fall into that category sometimes :P )
-Sappy romances
-Plot holes

A writer is somebody for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people- Thomas Mann

...You know, I'm actually rather fond of "hisself," provided it's used in dialogue. I'm okay with it in narrative, too, PROVIDED it is exceptionally well-written first person (Huckleberry Finn comes to mind).

I'm in a considerably worse mood today and I'm still having trouble coming up with things that bother me outside of Darlings. XD

Though I do dislike authors preaching at me. Narrative should speak for itself: if it does, you don't need to preach; and if it doesn't, you're Doing It Wrong. And it doesn't matter if it's an author I agree with or not. This is the reason why I think Unwind is a brilliant book, but dislike every bit of "Christian" fiction I've read and thoroughly dislike the third book of Pullman's His Dark Materials as well.

Though this isn't an absolute, I don't think, because I adore The Screwtape Letters. Then again, Lewis' writing is intelligent enough that, while I do feel like his position on things is clear and he's definitely arguing for the things he believes in, the reader has the option of disagreeing with him. He doesn't write down to you. And that's the same sort of feeling I get from Unwind, so maybe I just have a problem with simplistic preaching/talking down to the reader.

MEH. Who knows. XD

Maybe, var, you just don't like people being condescending with what they write. :P

I know I HATE my biology class for that same reason. :P

I think I don't like people being condescending in general--to me, anyway. Because the people who do so are usually, well, hm. Let's just say I've found I have very little trouble poking holes in their theses, and leave it at that. :)

(am i going to regret asking what the biology teacher is condescending about?)

This guy is constantly telling us what is, and isn't on the test because, "he doesn't expect us to remember the other stuff."

:P As a result, the details that are really interesting get blown over in the interested of good grades.

He's also pretty nasty about Theistic evolution. :P lol.

so yeah. I just happen to think that high school students should be able to retain more information than just what's on the test.

my largest pet peeve is when someone creates an amazing villian, the trashes them in the sequels (Peter and the Starcatchers *cough* *cough*)...or when the villian does not use the full extent of his powers thus being destroyed or making a serious blunder (Darth Vader *cough* *cough*), or when the villian is not logical AT ALL (my freaking word that happens all the time!! Voldemort *cough* cough* you could have just killed Harry in the 4th book instead of playing with him you freak!) and when the villian is flat and stale (evil for the sake of evil)....

lol, my pet peeves are with the villians. I study them. :D

OBC! Wow, to my family there. Ghost I know you're reading this! Btw, you're awesome. I couldn't imagine life without you!
Demons and Angels, Darkness and Light, Good and Bad, Wrong and Right. My life is in tangles, my world is in shreads. I want to choose life, but I'm already dead. Hear, tell, look, feel, it's all the same. Everyones gone, as soon as they came. Come back to me...come back. Please...
To Falchion. You are the one who encourages so much on my book. Thanks a million.
I'm going to run away/ Where the moon is ever shining/ And the creatures of the wood are fey/ And my love for you is pining/ I'd ask you to run away with me/ But your eyes tell me no/ You do not wish to see/ You do not wish to go.My friends, expecially Trell, thanks for being there for me!
I will run away and never look back/ I will forget everything I once knew/ But if ever I lacked/ Ever I missed/ I would look back/ Just for you...
To my family. You guys are my best friends! I tell you everything! Much to the dismay of my cousins.

To Stefa Lene! It's so great to have you as a friend! I know you've got my back and I can't wait to meet you!
Take my heart, but please take care of it...
Next to my soul it's all I have to give.
Do not abuse it, break or loose it...
For in it I live.
My heartstrings are tied to you,
My heart is as a diamond, and I'm giving it to you...my love.
Do not abuse it, break or loose it.

Mindarin, you are a great friend and a little sister to me.
Now for the soul, I cannot give.
The heart is given to my earthy lover.
But the soul is my heart of heaven, and is already given.
Already spoken for, already sealed.
Another lover claimed it, long ago.
Paid for it in blood, and then washed it to the color of untainted virgin snow.
I know He will not abuse it, break or loose it.

Lúthien Lossëhelin, my Elf name.
But for my heart, I entrusted to you. Do not abuse it, break or loose it.

WRAITHS OF YORE!
To God. Without you I would have died at age 14. You helped though, and held my hand, carrying me along. To You I owe my life, my love, myself, my talents. I am Yours. Without You life is not worth living.
