I'm more bothered by badly-written dialect--really, honestly, written dialect
in general bothers me unless it's subtle or exceptionally well-done.
But let's see, actual pet peeves...I might be in too good of a mood to do this right now. XD OH! Here is one (that will no doubt paint me as a hypocrite): I hate, hate, HAAAAATE
Author's Darlings. The reason I say it makes me a hypocrite is because I'm not sure, from the writing perspective, how defined that line is between "loving your character" and "loving them way too much" and, well, I've been writing Feir and co. for a month. I do like to think he's not a Darling, but, my own writing aside--that crap drives me nuts on several levels. As a reader it's just annoying, but as an editor it is incredibly frustrating, because you can't even suggest anything about the character (even neutral things!) without the author taking it as a personal affront and getting either super-defensive or completely tuning you out. Speaking from experience.
...Otherwise, yeah, I think I'm in too good of a mood. XD
