How many characters do I have?? Really? I'm so not counting them! And there's always new ones popping up anyway. Like an army, invading my head...Ahem. Anyway. As to the male/female question...males. Definitely males. I used to prefer females until I met Miss Madeleine Luck who is the whiniest/angstiest female evarrr. Var, you know what I'm talking about. XD No, actually, I do like her now, though. She's soo much better in the rewrite. Honestly, I like males and females, but after finishing reading Fruits Basket, I now am much more excited about my male characters. I feel like there is a lot of potential in the male area that I have not yet explored. I am very tempted to steal Yuki and Kyo and Shigure and Ayame and, and...and oh jeez, this is getting long. It's clearly late; I'm rambling on and on. So, but, yes, did that answer the question?

um....
In one book I have like 13...10 of which are kinda major...the rest are more background.

the other book there's like 16, with 10 again being major.

Of course that doens't count the dozen's of background chars...soldiers...random werewovles. :P

And I perfer male characters, something I will need to work on because I need stronger female characters.

Hehe Rin <3

Anyways, #2.

Oh, I don't know. When I first started writing, I definitely wrote more female characters, but now I think it's pretty equal in my stuff. (NaNo '08 had two of each of my main, main charries, and '09 had two guys and a girl for the really made ones). However, when I'm writing with other people I find I write more guys, simply from the necessity of other people writing girls and so we need more guys.

And I have lots of characters. I don't really want to try and count all of them. >.<

I have too many characters to count :P

I've written both male and female chars (more females, I think), depending on the story; however, it seems most of my fantasy works have male leads.

#2 Major, minor, or murdered?

I have several villages living in my head. In my WiP, I have --three MAJOR MCs who survive for the first half, four MC's who don't survive the first half, and two minor charries whose only purpose is to die in the first half.
And those are the good guys...I have no clue

I don't want to count up my characters, particularly if we're not talking just major characters. XD Let's just say "many" and leave it at that.

I tend to write men more often. I think it's because I don't exactly like having women running around swinging swords and being soldiers just like the men, and most of my ideas involve fighting and such. *shrug* I don't object to writing either, though, so I'm not sure I really have a preference, as such.

After a rough talley--about 317, including 18 fanfic charries borrowed from Tolkien.
And mostly women in the 12-23 range, with a large subsection of winged humans.

I'm gonna side with the majority here and say, honestly, I have no idea how many characters I have, and attempting to count them is a daunting task (and confusing--what if you have two different timelines, where the characters have the same names but incredibly different stories? what about reincarnations? alternate personalities?).

I tend to write more male characters, but I actually prefer playing girls--I generally know what I want to do with female characters, personality-wise. Probably because I don't write girls as my mains UNLESS I have a feel for them already. I'm not as discriminating with my guys. But this isn't a solid RULE, really; there are stories where I've been very deliberate with my male characters, and stories where I've winged the girls, AND stories where I've thought a character was one sex and they turned out to be another. Good times. XD

QUESTION #3: How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you're writing about fictional places)?

As always, answer now or answer on some future day, and be as long-winded or as concise as you'd like. :)
