A question for serious consideration:

If you were trying to find the top-secret local headquarters of an international evil secret society so you could ruin all their nefarious plans, where would you look first?

Um... Area 51.

Local? As in your area? I'm not sure...it might depend on the sort of evil secret society you're talking about. Somewhere innocuous, like a library, perhaps?

Library? No, we already know all about the evil plots of Librarians, so that would be the first place to look. Hmm..Perhaps they might hide in a Bed and Breakfast! Who else would think to look there, among all the kind elderly ladies who sip thier tea there are evil plots brewing. Who knows who you can trust?

That's where I'd look!

Someplace inconspicuous yet at the same fairly isolated from most people.

What are the evil society's goals? Knowing what they're trying to do would narrow down your options considerably.

And are they top secret as in, no one knows they exist? Or are they top secret as in, they have some kind of innocent-looking cover operation?

Gimme more info and I'll start throwing ideas.

OK, here it is:

It's this ultra-old and ultra-secret society based in the "country" of Albinia called the Knot. Think of all the worst and most fascinating bits of history regarding the KKK, the Mafia, and the Black Vehm (a splinter off the better-known Holy Vehm)--and add them all together.
So my MMC is the grandson of a man who defected from the Knot and emigrated to America, where he changed his name and fell of the Knot's radar. Unfortunately for HIM, when he defected, he squealed to authorities, who raided Knot headquarters and ended up having a shootout that killed my villain's sister and lover.
So.
My villain has finally managed to track down my MMC (through some stupidity and insatiable curiosity on MMC's part) and is intent on driving him to insanity and then killing him. Because my villain is evil like that.
So I know that his headquarters are a warehouse somewhere (riverfront? downtown? industrial neighborhood?) and I know that it's somewhere that things can happen without alot of people noticing (so it can't be in in either a busy place or a big open area).
My problem is, my MMC needs to sneak off one evening to blow up the baddie's place, but I can't figure out how he knows where it is. Possible possibilities: internet research? a squealer? following the baddie?

OK. Any help?

Pay no attention to the bird behind the curtain!!
