George R. R. Martin on TV?

Is anyone else besides me slightly thrilled for the upcoming HBO series of A Game of Thrones? I mean, I'd probably be dreading it if it weren't for the fact that Martin is actually working on it. So, thoughts? Or am I alone in my thrilled-ness?

You should read them! I adore them. :D And do you know why he thinks it's going to be bad?

I think it's going to be pretty awesome. XD From what I've heard, the setting looks like it's going to be very detailed? Which is bonus points in my book.

And I'm secretly very happy that ASoIaF is getting turned into a TV series before Wheel of Time. Gives me hope for the universe. :D

I love the story and think it would be a good TV show, but I doubt I'd ever watch it; given the content of the first book, I'd hate to see it on a TV screen (or, in this case, a computer screen).

Blegh. I tried to get through the first book of The Wheel of Time, but I can't inflict that kind of pain on myself. Especially 12 - or however many - books of pain. XD

As to if they're going to do Martin's books well, I think they will. Like I said, he's helping a lot with the show, and from the 11 minute "making of" clip I watched, it seems like they're paying a LOT of attention to detail: sets, costumes, different cultures. And the cast seems quite good to me. I personally think Sean Bean will make an amazing Ned Stark.

I always thought Sean Bean was a bit of an odd choice for Ned Stark, especially given that Bean generally plays characters with villainous or non-admirable streaks. But, that's just me....

That's true, Faerie. I think he has a serious side that seems to fit though, and from what I've seen, he's a rather versatile actor, capable of different types of roles.

Oh dear. Another TV show I'm going to be hooked on...

Re: Wheel of Time, I wouldn't be that interested EXCEPT for the fact that I recently read Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn books and loved them.
