Wheel of Time questions

Hello! I know I haven't been on here for quite some time, but I had a question or two about the Wheel of Time series, and I thought I remembered that some of ya'll had read it :D

Anywho, I guess I was basically wondering if it was possible to read the first book without feeling impelled to finish the series if I didn't like it... I happen to be amazingly prone to becoming hooked (or at least semi-hooked) on things that I don't really like. As long as the story is the least bit interesting, of course :)

The rules sticky posted at the top of the page seem a little vague, so if the following question is too 'adult', I'm really sorry :/ That said...

I also wanted to know if there was sex in them--if it was graphic or frequent. Can you kind of tell what's about to happen, so the scene would be easy to skip? I mean, I've read stuff before where sex is somewhat implied, but I don't want to read a lot of foreplay or anything. So yeah...

I hope ya'll had a wonderful Christmas with your families, and thanks in advance for replies!

Yeah, I'm a bit over half way through the second book now, and there's been no sex as of yet, (implied or otherwise). tifa's in like the seventh, and I think she would have mentioned it to me if there was graphic sex...

and I'd say you COULD put it down at the end of the first. I wouldn't have even if tifa didn't want me to read the rest of them so we could talk about them, but it's definitely my genre, and I haven't read any fantasy in a while :D

And it's good to see you, Luthien.

I'm not a fan of WoT, so keep that in mind; I did read six of 'em before I finally decided to stop, but I'd been bored since the third--I just was holding out for it to get better and, well, realized it wasn't going to.

That said, there weren't any graphic sex scenes that I recall in any of what I read--there's some implied stuff but it wasn't detailed IIRC. (This was several years ago that I read 'em, though, so take that with a grain of salt.)

Are you open to alternate recommendations, though, because IMO there are way better things than Robert Jordan, things that also do not have sex scenes.

And I've never read the Wheel of Time, so I can't really answer your questions, but I wanted to post anyway and say hello. :P

Luthien! :]
I'm not going to lie; It's one of my favorite series. My parents got me the most recent book for Christmas, I'm dying to finish it.
As far as where to stop... I'd read to the third book before you gave up entirely on the series. Originally, Robert Jordan had intended to make it into a three book series, and I think the first three by themselves are debatably the best trilogy I've ever read. I'm not sure if this is still true, but I heard Warner Bros. was reviewing the first three to make them into movies. I really think you should go that far before you make your final judgment on the series.
There are no sex scenes in the first three books that I remember. I don't think it gets into that stuff until the fifth book and even then it is very implied and easy to skip over.

But Luthien! We need to catch up! It's been a while, a LONG while! I hope everything is cool!

And men cried to the Creator, O Light of Heavens, Light of the World, let the Promised One be born of the mountain, according to the Prophecies, as he was in Ages past and will be in Ages to come. Let the arm of the Lord of the Dawn shelter is from the Dark, and the great sword of justice defend us. Let the Dragon again ride on the winds of time.
