Far too many, in my opinion.

If the debates bother you, don't feel like you have to post in them or even read them; the majority of the threads on this board ARE non-debate threads.

(Are there any debate threads that don't have at least one person asking some variation on that question? Sheesh, people.)

Re: social awkwardness--I'm not saying that anyone here is socially awkward (since I've only spoken to a few of you via phone and I don't think it's easy to judge that sort of thing with solely online contact), but saying that you're talkative/sociable doesn't mean you AREN'T. Seriously. Some of the most socially awkward people I know (the ones that aren't Aspies, anyway) are quite talkative, friendly and extroverted. Awkwardness doesn't equal shyness. Awkwardness equals odd responses or no responses to social cues. It equals a lack of awareness about how one comes across. And other things I'm too tired to detail.

Trust me: extroverts can be just as awkward as introverts. You can be friendly and still be socially inept. It happens. A lot.

To be honest, whenever I have heard someone refer to a homeschooler being socially inept, or whenever I have witnessed it myself, it is the "loud" kind of ineptness.

Actually, very few of the homeschoolers I know, here or IRL, are shy; even Ocean Cat, who was very shy IRL when I first met her, is very open and talkative once she's comfortable with you. *should ask her to post in this thread as she probably has plenty to say on the topic*

Again, I'm not saying ya'll are secretly awkward and just don't know it; I'm saying please don't equate it with being shy.

(Heck, of the four kids with Asperger's that I know pretty well, ALL are total extroverts.)

I still don't get where you get the whole socially awkward thing. Just because we're homeschooled doesn't mean we never see people.

*smacks forehead* i can't believe I didn't realize that. now that I think about it, I do know maybe 2 or 3 people who are socially awkward.:D But two of them go to public school and they all are either autistic or have Asperger's Syndrome. *shrug*

as to being an extroverted freak...:D

I suppose I can't say I am (because I wouldn't know it), but I rather doubt it. People talk about us being undersocialized, but the truth, is that sometimes it's a challenge to get all our schoolwork done because we have so many homeschool group activities. lol.

Frodo: I can't do this, Sam.

Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.

Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?

Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.

Var? Are you talking about me? Cause that is not what I'm saying at all! I believe that public school is a social sucess in most cases. It DOES teach kids. I just prefer Homeschooling over public or private schools because I believe I have learned more out of homeschooling than I would have ever learned out of a public school. I've learned how to treat others with respect, deal with anger in a correct way, and I have become a better human being from learning all the things I have been taught, through my parents, freinds, and leaders of my church. That my opion. Now there are people that have learned all that and more from going to school. But I was not one of them. I was learning at a young age how to degrate women, hit things and yell when I was mad, and not function like I should in a normal society. Homeschooling has its pros and its cons just like private and public schools, which school a child should go to is differnt for each case.

I think she was talking about me, but I did not intend what I said to come across that way. I was saying I have benefited more from homeschooling than I think I would have from public/private school.

Nah, I was talking to MOSTLY Tigron, a little bit of Meg and Corey, sorta? But mostly Tigron, hence why I was quoting things she'd said in her post. And I apologize for misinterpreting you, Tigron, though I still stand by what I said.

Diarcno, I mostly agree with everything you've posted in this thread, so...yeah, definitely not talking to you in that case. XD
