Oh, geez. Anyone who thinks Eragon is original in any way, shape or form, needs to read more fantasy. XD Particularly Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea cycle, and Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. The former is where Paolini stole his magic from; the latter, where he got his dragons.
And then there are all the little things, like Solembum being a total clone of Garth Nix's werecat, Mogget; and the little girl, Elva, who in Eldest is basically just like this little girl in the Dune series...and I could go on. Eragon really is kind of a badly-patched-together quilt of the different fantasy series Paolini had read at the time--the most impressive thing is that no one's sued him for it. Though I guess plagiarism is hard to prove, especially in the fantasy genre...
Anyway. Audiobooks are awesome. If it weren't for audiobooks, I would never have originally read Eragon, because there are parts of it that are so tedious that I'd've never finished if I'd been reading it in print. :D Eldest was even worse.
So I advocate audiobooks for everything. They're also a lot more convenient for me, 'cause I can listen to them at work. :D :D :D
