Calvin, one of the reasons I come to the forum is to practice my debating skills, so keep it up!

By the way I do not know if this forum is still on HP but if it is I know that the Bible says to only think apon things that are pure clean and of good report, and countless others it says a witch should not be allowed to live. I am one of thoses people who are particularly drawn to the occult and therefore I do not read thoses books and allow them to poison my mind.

Since I do not read them I have a question about them. where does the power that harry and his friends have come from?
I hardly think it comes from God.

And in the Bible it is also perfectly clear that homosexuality is wrong. It talks about how a man shall not treat a man as a man, and how a women should not have sexual desires for each other. I simply cannot sanction a book where the consept of sin is twisted, so that others are deceived.

One of my good friends was tricked into casting spells, and other things because of reading these books, and I seriously know that they are dangerously unhealthy for your mind.

hm...

"I know that the Bible says to only think apon things that are pure clean and of good report, and countless others it says a witch should not be allowed to live."

last i heard the court was still out on it being evil... and u seem to be kinda getting hung up on the terminoligy... simply because it CALLS them a witch doesnt necesarily mean that the pray to the Devil, regularily sacrifice animals to the gods or any of that stuff....

"Since I do not read them I have a question about them. where does the power that harry and his friends have come from?
I hardly think it comes from God."

ever read a superheros story? i can count on one hand the number of super heroes that say there power comes from god.. that doesn't necessarily mean its evil...

"And in the Bible it is also perfectly clear that homosexuality is wrong. It talks about how a man shall not treat a man as a man, and how a women should not have sexual desires for each other."

that may be true for you... but again the court is still out as to wether it MATTERS that the author SAYS a charecter is @#$%&... personnally i never saw any evidance at all that he was...

"I simply cannot sanction a book where the consept of sin is twisted, so that others are deceived."

is tis still in refurance to the @#$%& remark? or to something els?

"One of my good friends was tricked into casting spells, and other things because of reading these books, and I seriously know that they are dangerously unhealthy for your mind."

only in so much as u take the book seriously.... i personaly read them cause they looked good... i mean even chocalate can be bad for ur health if u look at it as a drug... i mean if u take ANYTHING to seriously u can end up pretty messed up...

hope i answered ur questions well... and srry if i was to obnoxiouse..

So, the BotB administrator has been more than co-operative with me and others now, so i retract what i had on my sig, but leave the picture because i, well, think it looks pretty cool...

oh, and you can still check out hot topics and debates here: [z4.invisionfree.com]

thank you,

Thanks, but Shalista does have a point just calling something a word with bad connotations doesn't make it evil. however the power Harry and is friends demonstrate the things they do and stand for and the way they act is not godly and it is never shown to be wrong. As for their witch craft since the power doesn't come from God it would have to come from another source, the only other one being the Devil. I'm going to start posting on the assembly too. see you there.

"Calvin, one of the reasons I come to the forum is to practice my debating skills, so keep it up! "

Mindarin you seem to be under the false impression that debating must include subtle jabs to the opponent. That is not so. Unless you are watching a presidential debate. I always say this. Debates should be civil. Attack the position. Not the person. Number one rule in debating. At least in my book.
Calvin is a great debater. SO you will get your practice. But he breaks the rule sometimes. :)

well mick this continued in the assembly part of the forum (if u did not already know) and mick i do agree with you. but sometimes the person postion is wrong and therefore and your point of view that person is just outright wrong. this is not a debate class where every other week you switch sides. this is a debate about something no1 wants to change thier minds about. i think it is sad that people are blind to HP's lies and the very dark theme he presents.

I understand, Sul. But that doesn't change the fact. You can attack the position. But you shouldn't attack the person. In attacking the position, you are showing people what you believe. You don't have to attack them personally. Just because people believe it, and aren't defending something cause it was assigned to them doesn't change the rules of debating.

I don't remember all of how this thread went down. But I remember enjoying it somewhat. So I'm bumping it to share the love.
