Personally I loved all the BOTB books. They're not perfect but, most books aren't. I thought the charcters had a lot of depth and the story was very original. You can see several similarites between it and LOTR, but lets face it most fantasy books post LOTR have similar concepts,it's almost impossible to avoid. It's true that some parts of the book seem to drag on(just like LOTR), but these parts add more depth to the story and points of view. The part Monias wasn't particularly interesting but I enjoyed hearing things from his point of veiw. plus he needed to be in the last chapters os you had to explain somehow how he got there.
I'm a Joraiem fan, I was completely devestated when he didn't come back, but I hope he will. I would read the rest of the books, then you'll understand more how people can love them.
