i don't hate the series, but it seems people here over praise them. And for the record, eragon sucks too...

So, the BotB administrator has been more than co-operative with me and others now, so i retract what i had on my sig, but leave the picture because i, well, think it looks pretty cool...

I agree that Eragon stinks. I don't worship BotB. I just enjoy it. It's not the best series, but I enjoy it anyway. No author is perfect.

I like Eragon, but its not the best written book. Eldest is waaay better.

I think BOTB is very original. Yes, L.B. does put in too much description and drag things out sometimes (or alot). I liked having Monias there. It gave us an interesting surprise and a new refreshing outlook. I think L. B. is one of the best authors I know of. His books have a nice depth to them that most books, except LOTR, don't have.

I also agree that Eragon stinks. Eldest was really boring. I still want to read the third book though. I want to find out what happens with Murtagh, 'cuz I like him!

I think that having Monias there just made it more realistic, I mean in real life you don't just forget about a friend or a family member and even if their life is boring you still take time to find out about

hm, i'll ditto what many here have said, i don't worship the books, but i will say that they're not that bad, in fact they're pretty good, maybe not my most favorite series but still quite good....as for Monias i think L.B. put him in there for a reason

hmm personally i thought monias was rele boring and either skim read or skipped over all the parts with him (no offense L.B.)
and as to being original about malekim(sp?) every fantasy story has some type of 'orcish' 'goblin' thing in it...

also... Tolkien didn't rele use 'everything' in his books, he made all that stuff up. He was pretty much one of the first people to write good fantasy novels, so if he could make stuff up (random stuff like a little man with yellow boots) then so could other people...

don't get me wrong, i enjoyed the first and third BotB books...

but the second was too infodummpy to me, and the forth I couldn't even bring myself to finish I just got bored with it...

And trust me, I don't usually like to leave books unread.

Hmm... I've only read the first book myself and I did not like it at all, even though I finished it. I found everything predictable and couldn't stand Joriam(sp?) or most of the other characters. And it seemed really shallow, the characters, the plot line, everything. It's just my opinion but...
